Sconce Park

In Green Citizens Blog by Green Citizens

We have taken part in Winter walks around nearby Sconce Park with Park Rangers Lyn and Simon who took us around the site to identify leaves, trees and mushrooms. We used identification sheets to spot the different types. Whilst there they showed us their boggy area they had been building and gave us ideas for the marshland at Flower Pod Newark.

One Green Citizen said: “When we went to Sconce Park we were identifying different leaves on trees and mushrooms, and I’ve got good eyesight and the amount of mushroom I seen, and I pointed them out to people.’’

We also looked at the different fruits that were on the trees and learnt about the cycle of a seed growing into a tree and producing seeds. We learnt about the decomposition of leaves which prevents huge piles of leaves building up. The Green Citizens used this knowledge to better understand the new compost bins at Flower Pod Newark.

We also took part in the Big Butterfly Count and the Bird Count at Flower Pod Newark with Park Ranger Lyn.
