We are pleased to announce that Flower Pod Newark is beginning the new year by launching a fantastic Mindfulness Garden project, thanks to a grant from The National Lottery Community Fund – Awards for All. The project will help us to develop a calming space for clients to improve their emotional wellbeing.
Christine Daniels, Flower Pod Newark’s Centre Manager, is leading the project. She is looking forward to delivering wellbeing activities for clients in the Mindfulness Garden once it is finished, which will include gardening and crafts.
Christine shares: “It has been wonderful to see the transformation that clients have shown since coming to Flower Pod Newark and taking part in outdoor learning opportunities. This grant will help us to develop the Mindfulness Garden into a peaceful space where our clients can socialise, exercise, learn and relax. Being able to offer therapeutic activities in nature, like yoga on the lawn, will really empower clients to discover healthy strategies for reducing feelings of anxiety.”
Clients and volunteers have already begun helping to clear the area, mow the lawn and organise compost. Later in the year, clients have plans to add conservational touches to the Mindfulness Garden, like bird tables, bat boxes and hedgehog-friendly areas. This will encourage bio-diversity and the growth of wildlife.
Christine goes on to explain: “With this exciting new project, we are always looking for volunteers to join us – it makes a huge difference having the support of local people.”
