Reach has taken an innovative approach to raising awareness of our work and generating income by opening a new community café in Balderton this Bank Holiday weekend.

Reach Cafe – operated by Reach Learning Disability at a site owned by Balderton Parish Council – opened at Balderton Playing Field on Friday 24th May ahead of a busy Bank Holiday Weekend and Half Term week. Since opening, the café has already been rated as a 5-star establishment by Facebook fans.

The café serves sandwiches, toasties, snacks, cakes including gluten-free options, ice creams and hot and cold drinks seven days a week from 8am to 5pm. Hot snacks including bacon sandwiches will be added to the menu in coming weeks. Dogs are welcome, and the café is breastfeeding-friendly. There is free on-site parking and outdoor seating, perfect for parents who can enjoy a coffee while they keep an eye on their children on the playing fields.

The café will now play a multi-faceted role in the future of Reach Learning Disability. As well as being a welcoming new community hub where locals can meet and eat every day of the week, the cafe will give visitors the opportunity to learn about Reach Learning Disability and their work across the county. Additionally, the income will support and diversify Reach’s funding portfolio and it will provide a place for the our clients to socialise with the community and even volunteer.

Reach’s Chair of Trustees, David Thompson, said on the opening day: “Opening the café today is something of a milestone for Reach Learning Disability. We already operate four client-focused centres across the county but this, our fifth, is quite different and really will sit at the heart of the community. We envisage the café being busy with dog-walkers, local clubs and groups, cricket fans, footballers, families, our clients – and all are welcome.”

The new café is situated on Balderton Playing Field at the end of Coronation Street. Follow www.facebook.com/reachcafebalderton/ to find out about special offers and menus.
