Green Superheroes

Green Superheroes

"The Green Citizens Programme will help our clients get involved with all things eco so they can take an active role in their local communities as green superheroes."

As with many other big issues, people with learning disabilities are still too often left out of the conversation around how to look after our planet. The Green Citizens Programme will help our clients get involved with all things eco so they can take an active role in their local communities as green superheroes.

Many Flower Pod clients have been eager to engage with the wildlife in the garden and already have a good knowledge of birds and other animals. But so often ‘wild’ means difficult to access for many people with learning disabilities who may need support to navigate new places.

To tackle this, at Flower Pod Southwell we will build a new wildlife pond with accessible paths, railings and a purpose-designed bird hide. At Flower Pod Newark, in the heart of the Hawtonville estate, we will establish a wildflower meadow. This will help attract more wildlife for clients to learn about. Most importantly these spaces will be their spaces – created by people with learning disabilities for people with learning disabilities, shaped around their needs, wants and ideas.
