Flower Pod Southwell has recently received some summer bedding plants from students at Nottingham Trent University.

For a Crop Production module focusing on community engaged learning, NTU students needed to grow produce for local causes. Flower Pod clients planted the summer bedding into hanging baskets, tubs and pallets to decorate the site with colourful fuchsias and petunias.

Flower Pod client Alasdair shared: “Staff showed me how to pot the plants in. It was nice to do it independently and be with my friends.”

The Cricket Club benefitted as Flower Pod clients planted tubs and hanging baskets to brighten up their pavilion. Some of the cut flowers NTU students produced were also delivered to Reach’s Flower Pod Newark site.

Horticultural Lead at Flower Pod, Samuel Ward, said: “The growing relationship Flower Pod has with NTU is fantastic. Some of the NTU students volunteer at Flower Pod, so it was great to see them supporting clients to plant the flowers they had grown for us. Our clients enjoyed the opportunity to visit Brackenhurst’s Glass House Complex to collect the plants, as they were able to interact with the plant scanner. Thanks to all the students involved.”
