Flower Pod’s ethos has always been about sustainability, conservation and wildlife. Reach was therefore delighted to receive substantial funding from the Samworth Foundation’s Transformation and Innovation fund to expand its work in these areas.  

Our year-long transformational programme is called Green Citizens. We will use the funding to install solar panels, improve rainwater harvesting facilities and develop accessible wildlife gardens at the Flower Pod sites in Southwell and Newark.

Green Citizens Project Lead, Sam Ward, explains: 

“Wildlife and sustainability are both topics which our clients find particularly engaging, so we are excited that this funding will enable us to focus on these more. In addition, these structural changes at both sites will enable us to increase client numbers, introduce new programmes of learning for clients and get the local community more involved with our work.” 

The funding will also enable Flower Pod to train some clients as Green Mentors who will pass on their knowledge to other clients and organisations. As Sam continues: “We want to ensure we use our sites and natural resources efficiently to benefit our clients and community now and in the future.”
