One of our new accessible planters!

A team of advisers from St. James’ Place has helped launch our ‘Access All Areas’ project to improve accessibility for clients (adults with learning disabilities) here at Flower Pod Southwell. As part of Reach, Flower Pod Southwell is one of our two horticultural sites enabling clients to develop skills for greater independence through horticultural therapeutic activities.

The 19-strong St. James’ Place team joined our Flower Pod staff, volunteers and clients to build accessible planters in the polytunnel, and erect a new handrail on the path to the learning garden – an area which some clients have found difficult to access in the past. The team also helped Reach to secure a grant of £3,342 from St. James’ Place Charitable Foundation.

Nicola Bradley, Flower Pod Centre Manager, says “We were delighted by the team’s hard work and enthusiasm. They got through so much – we hope to welcome everyone back next year. In the meantime, we plan to excavate the area ready for laying a patio. One of our wonderful volunteers completed the Virtual London Marathon to raise the funds for this vital piece of work.”
